During our eurotrip, we took train from Amsterdam to Brussels and decided to spend half a day to explore Brussels before heading out to Paris. We had to stash our big luggage bags at some location in the train station before heading out to explore Brussels. We did lose some time trying to figure out the lockers and onward train to Brussels Central etc, so this information would be beneficial for other fellow travellers.

Luggage locker

Brussels Midi(Brussels South) has both luggage lockers and a staffed left luggage facility. Follow the sign boards for luggage lockers and its near the Eurostar and Thalys reception facility.

Locker dimensions (Height x Depth x Width)

  • Small => 36"x15"x12"(89 cm x 38 cm x 30 cm)
  • Medium => 36"x24"x15" (89 cm x 60 cm x 38 cm)
  • Jumbo => 36"x36"x20" (89 cm x 89 cm x 50 cm)

The maximum period of use is 168 hours. When using the safes, you pay rent for a period of 24 hours and you can pay the rest of the amount whenever you collect the luggage. Both lockers are open 24 hours a day, the staffed facility costs €8.00 per item per calendar day, the 3 sizes of lockers cost €4.50, €5, €5.50 per 24 hours.

TIP: The rates and storage time may vary, please check the instructions at the facility for most up to date information.

We could not find free lockers for luggage initially, we just waited for a while and we were lucky to have couple of them cleared out. We managed to fit in 25" - 27" Luggage bags along with smaller backpacks onto a Jumbo locker.

TIP: For the automated luggage lockers, make sure to carry some euro coins. We could not find any coin changing machines nearby, so we ended up buying some chocolates from a store within the station, to get coins as balance

The automated luggage lockers are cheaper compared to the staffed left luggage but the availability will be limited for bigger luggage lockers. In case you are short on time, leave the luggage at the staffed location and head out to Brussels.

So finally after stashing our luggage, we headed out back to the platforms to get a train to Brussels Central which is closer to main Brussels attractions.
