During a -3 ft low tide at Brackett’s Landing in Edmonds, we spotted more sea life than we expected. Here is a quick visual guide to what we found and how to identify each one on your own trip.

Beach combing at low tide is one of the best free things you can do around Seattle. The Puget Sound shoreline is full of tide pools with sea stars, crabs, anemones and nudibranchs. But the whole experience depends on getting the timing right.

Brackett’s Landing is a small stretch of Puget Sound shoreline right next to the Edmonds ferry terminal, about 20 miles north of Seattle. On a good low tide day, it turns into one of the best tide pooling spots around the city.

Bench lake and Snow lakes are subalpine lakes tucked within the Tatoosh range. Snow lake is filled by the meltwater from the snowfields of the Tatoosh Range and lies in a talus strewn cirque beneath the highest point in the Tatoosh Range. On a clear day Bench lake offers breathtaking views of Mount Rainier.

Naches Peak Loop Trail is one of our absolute favorite hikes in the Pacific Northwest. Tucked away near Chinook Pass in Mt Rainier National Park, this 3.2 mile loop packs in an incredible amount of scenery for a relatively easy hike — alpine meadows bursting with wildflowers in summer, blazing fall foliage in autumn, views of Dewey Lake, and the mighty Mt Rainier as a backdrop for much of the trail. If you are looking for one hike to do near Mt Rainier that does not require a lot of effort but delivers jaw-dropping views, this is it.

Burrough mountain trail offers spectacular view of Mt Rainier and Emmons Glacier. We do make sure to get couple of trails in the Mt Rainier area every year, and we like to share our pictures and memories from each of our hikes. This one is from a summer starter hike in July couple of days after the road opened till Sunrise visitor center. Snow had almost melted but please check the trail conditions with rangers before heading out. We had to use our microspikes to cross some steep snowfields while crossing the mountain slopes. Something like the Kahtoola MICROspikes Footwear Traction are essential for trails like these.

Niagara falls is one of the most famous waterfall in the world and one of the top attractions in United States of America. Niagara falls is the collective name for three waterfalls(the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe Falls) that straddle the international border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the U.S. state of New York. Horseshoe falls is located on the Canadian side while the others are located in New York. All falls can be seen from either side of the country.

Snow-clad peaks of the Cascade Range in the Pacific North West is just one of the reasons to go on epic road trips. Seattle is a good base to start your journey to explore these majestic volcanic peaks and trails surrounding them.
