Niagara falls is one of the most famous waterfall in the world and one of the top attractions in United States of America. Niagara falls is the collective name for three waterfalls(the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe Falls) that straddle the international border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the U.S. state of New York. This is one of the most visited tourist attraction in the world with more than 15 million visitors each year. These falls are the southern end of the Niagara gorge. Horseshoe falls is located on the Canadian side while the others are located in New York. All falls can be seen from either side of the country.

If planned properly you can see all the attractions in this area in a day but we recommend to reach the night before, to have a refreshed morning to enjoy all the attractions Niagara has to offer. We have visited the falls multiple times with friends and we love spending a day or two just enjoying the grandeur nature has to offer.

Following are the must do activities at Niagara falls

1. Maid of the Mist

Maid of the Mist is the boat ride that takes you below the Horseshoe falls and it is one of the activities that is not be missed. You can see all the three falls as they take you on an semi closed boat ride and you can feel the thunderous waterfalls and its might and get sprayed with some water as you go on this amazing ride. Don’t miss this and this is once in a lifetime experience. You can always get ticket at the booth but we do recommend to get in early and do this first to beat any crowds or queues.

Once you get into the ticketed area, there is a small museum and exhibitions and elevated view points to get some good pictures of all the falls and the rainbow bridge as well.

After the boat ride, don’t forget to climb the stairs to get closer to the American falls and get sprayed with some water. You will have ponchos that you got from the boat ride, so do not worry about getting wet too much.

2. Trolley around the park

This is optional and is recommended if you don’t want to walk the entire park and is short on time. We normally don’t take the trolley but it is a bit of walk to get from American falls to Bridal Veil and then to Horseshoe falls.

You can buy trolley tickets that can be used to hop on and hop off anywhere in the park, so in case you are not ready for some walk, get these tickets.

3. Niagara river

You are basically walking along the Niagara river most of the time, if you are not taking the trolley. It is recommended to go next to the river and look at the gushing water that eventually falls down the gorge as American falls. You will be amazed at the volume of water that is just flowing down.

4. Cave of the winds (Bridal Veil falls)

You are basically walking along the Niagara river most of the time, if you are not taking the trolley. It is recommended to go next to the river and look at the gushing water that eventually falls down the gorge as American falls. You will be amazed at the volume of water that is just flowing down and then over the falls.

5. Horseshoe falls

The final view point from the American side of the border is the Horseshoe falls. The views are for sure better from Canada side but nevertheless the view from this side is an experience as well. There is nightly light show at the falls as well, in case you have time to hang out and check out the light show.

Burrough mountain trail offers spectacular view of Mt Rainier and Emmons Glacier. We do make sure to get couple of trails in the Mt Rainier area every year, and we like to share our pictures and memories from each of our hikes. This one is from a summer starter hike in July couple of days after the road opened till Sunrise visitor center. Snow had almost melted but please check the trail conditions with rangers before heading out. We had to use our microspikes to cross some steep snowfields while crossing the mountain slopes. Something like the Kahtoola MICROspikes Footwear Traction are essential for trails like these.
