Singapore zoo offers a welcome break from the urban jungle and is located in the north-western side of the island, it is a haven for wondrous wildlife and animal lovers will be delighted. Singapore Zoo is set in one of the most beautiful wildlife environments in the world and boasts of an “Open Concept” to enjoy the wildlife. It is home to more than 2,400 animals from over 300 species—including crocodiles, Malayan tapirs and white tigers etc. The park also boasts the world’s first free-ranging orangutan habitat in a zoo!

Singapore zoo was opened in 1973, and has since become one of the best rainforest zoos in the world. The Zoo has attained a strong reputation internationally for its conservation initiatives and breeding programmes.

The zoo is divided into 11 different zones and has 12 exhibits, affording numerous opportunities to get up close and personal with a diverse array of wildlife. Main noticeable ones within the zoo are

Elephants of Asia exhibit to rub elbows with the five big female elephants hailing from Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Night safari is another popular attraction within the zoo.

This is the world’s first nocturnal zoo and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Singapore. Check out the night safari route and map here!. Please keep in mind that there is separate entry fee for Night safari.

The Singapore zoo is huge and there’s loads to see. If you choose to put the zoo into your travel itinerary, prepare to spend at least half a day(excluding the Night safari) here.

I have always wondered why Seattle is called the Emerald City and the history and orgin of it. As I was reading more about this topic, I also came across other nick names that people commonly use for Seattle. Burrough mountain trail offers spectacular view of Mt Rainier and Emmons Glacier. We do make sure to get couple of trails in the Mt Rainier area every year, and we like to share our pictures and memories from each of our hikes. This one is from a summer starter hike in July couple of days after the road opened till Sunrise visitor center. Snow had almost melted but please check the trail conditions with rangers before heading out. We had to use our microspikes to cross some steep snowfields while crossing the mountain slopes. Something like the Kahtoola MICROspikes Footwear Traction are essential for trails like these.
